Who We Are

The Friends of Sauk Prairie Parks and Recreation was founded in 2017. Our mission is to bring additional parks and recreation areas to Sauk Prairie, as well as help maintain the current parks and field space that we currently have. Our goal is to build a community park that adds value to the lives of people here and serves as a destination landmark that will have a dream playground, outdoor weddings, reunions, corporate events, athletic tournaments, as well as recreational amenities for all ages.

Investing in Parks is Investing in Our Community

Parks helps build our community and make it a great place to live. Research collected by the National Recreation and Park Association shows that parks help communities by:

*Offering more opportunities for people to be healthy. Communities who have invested in their parks have seen increases in exercise among residents. When people have convenient access to free areas that offer quality outdoor space and recreational opportunities, they live healthier lives.

*Creating community cohesiveness. Parks serve as gathering spaces for families and friends, bring together people of all ages and income levels, and help shape a shared sense of identity. Parks also linked with reduced crime and vandalism rates.

*Drawing people who are considering where to live. Eighty-five percent of Americans consider high-quality park and recreation amenities important factors when choosing a new place to live.

*Providing an economic boost. Parks increase property values and improve tax bases. They serve as tools to attract businesses, provide jobs and often can generate much of their own operating costs through fees and services.

*Attracting visitors from outside the community. A community park like we are proposing would serve as a destination landmark for our community, attracting people from surrounding areas. With improved facilities and fields, Sauk Prairie would be able to host more tournaments and events, bringing in outside dollars and increasing the visibility of our community.
